PRAYAGRAJ – AYODHYA
This journey is one of the most spiritually enriching road trips you can undertake from Delhi, covering two of Uttar Pradesh’s most revered cities. Prayagraj, formerly known as Allahabad, sits at the holy Triveni Sangam — the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers. The very air here carries centuries of devotion, mythology, and cultural grandeur. Starting your trip from Delhi in a comfortable 5–7 seater or traveller makes the overnight ride itself a bonding experience.
Prayagraj is home to the legendary Triveni Sangam, where a holy dip is considered to cleanse a lifetime of sins according to Hindu belief. The city also boasts the historic Allahabad Fort, the iconic Anand Bhavan, and the sacred Hanuman Temple at the Sangam. A morning boat ride on the confluence is a surreal, meditative experience that stays with you long after the journey ends. The city beautifully blends ancient spiritual heritage with colonial-era architecture and vibrant street life.
Covering approximately 160 km from Prayagraj, the drive to Ayodhya passes through the serene UP heartland — mustard fields, ghats, and small temple towns dot the highway. Ayodhya is the birthplace of Lord Rama and one of the seven sacred cities (Sapta Puri) in Hinduism. The city has transformed dramatically in recent years, especially with the grand construction of the Ram Mandir, now one of India’s most magnificent temples. Arriving in the evening allows you to soak in the magical Aarti on the Saryu ghats as the sky turns golden.
Anuman Garhi is a 76-step fortress-like temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, offering panoramic views of Ayodhya from its hilltop perch. Devotees believe that Hanuman guards Ayodhya and that no visit to the city is complete without seeking his blessings first. The newly built Ram Mandir is an architectural marvel of Nagara-style craftsmanship spread over 2.7 acres, with its grand spires visible from miles away. Walking through its sacred corridors filled with chants and flowers creates a deeply moving spiritual experience that is truly unforgettable.
