MCLEOADGANJ – TRUIND TREK
Trade the urban grind for the spiritual energy and dramatic mountain vistas of the Dhauladhar Range with this ultimate weekend adventure. Your journey sets off on a Friday evening from Delhi, boarding an overnight Volvo or luxury Traveler bound for the hill station of Mcleodganj.
The main highlight of this trip is the famous Triund Trek. Starting from Galu Devi temple near McLeodganj at around 1,800m, the trek covers 9 km to reach Triund Top at 2,842 metres. The total height you gain is about 1,042 metres from the trek starting point. The trail goes through thick rhododendron and oak forests, opens up to stunning ridge views, and ends at a wide open meadow at the top with a jaw-dropping direct view of the Dhauladhar mountain range — one of the most dramatic mountain views you can see in North India. The ascent takes around 5 to 7 hours depending on your pace.
Spending the night at Triund Top is an experience you will never forget. At 2,842 metres, the sky is incredibly clear — you can see thousands of stars at night, and in winter there is often snow all around you. The temperature at the top drops sharply after sunset, sometimes going below 5°C even in summer, so warm clothes are a must. There are basic food stalls and tent accommodation available at the top, but do not expect luxury — this is raw mountain living, and that is exactly what makes it so special and memorable.
On Day 3, you trek back down from Triund to McLeodganj — the descent takes about 4 to 5 hours. After coming down, you have the whole afternoon to explore the famous McLeodganj market, Bhagsu Nag area, and the colourful Tibetan shops selling momos, thukpa, and local handicrafts. This market is one of the most unique shopping experiences you will get in any hill station in India. After exploring, you board your vehicle in the evening and head back to Delhi, arriving the next morning with tired legs but a very happy heart.
